It is or it isn't

I need your expertise!

I've been referring to my band as "Electronic Rock" (with a spanking good beat). Some fans say we sound alot like Berlin (or Curve, or Erasure - depends who you ask). Meanwhile, I can't seem to find a genre that we definitively fall into. Maybe there isn't one - but I'd like to get a bit closer than that.

If some of you fabulous musicians and music lover types would do me the enormous favor of listening to one or two tracks and helping me to pinpoint this, I would be quite grateful! There are two places you can listen to my stuff free right now - www.cuirbleu.com/html/music.html and www.cdbaby.com/cuirbleu. Thank you for helping out!

Hmm, don't you hate having to label your stuff?

Well, I listened to it, and I like it! I must say, I don't hear the rock part. I definitely hear the electronic part, and it sounds way '80's retro to me. Again, I like it!

Maybe ask the women in the electronic music tribe....I'm terrible with the genre-names and in electronic music they seem to change daily.

I guess I should be more up on the labels, given the fact that my stuff is keyboard-heavy, too.

Thanks for giving it a listen! I guess the "rock" assumption is due to my vox - it seems that most "electronica" has more ethereal vocals. I'll definitely post to the tribe you suggested, too.

I resisted the genre thing for quite some time. It's only necessary now cause I have a CD to sell (I'm the record label as well as the artist!) and I need to know who my most likely audience is. Like - what OTHER bands do Cuir Bleu fans listen to? Which DJs would like it most? DJ Donimo at Shadowplay really likes it, and he spins "Indie electronic, new wave and disco punk". Shatter (BAGG & Die Maschinen) likes it but doesn't think it would fit in at either club that well. I'm a huge 80s fan myself, so obviously that shows somewhere.

Anyway, thanks for giving it a listen - glad you liked it!
