Women in music

I started this tribe in the hopes that we'll have a spot on Tribes to network, exchange ideas, and help one another through the music-making process. I am in the process of getting a certificate in music production, and feel so alone! In Pro Tools, Cubase, and other production classes, I am usually the only woman. Sigh.

Women in music rock. I love see women at guitar center brave enough to go in and buy stuff. Music stores usually assume that girls in the store are just the girlfriend. I love when they are there for themselve. Girls Rock.

Just took my 13-year-old daughter with me to Guitar Center last weekend for their big sale. I bought a new PA for the band & bought her little Fender Mini Strat for her birthday. She was having alot of fun sitting & learning a few chords, then walking around the store with the guitar strapped over her shoulder! There are a few cool women who work at the El Cerrito store, too - though most of the employees are guys still.

i think that is awesome....i was thinking about taking some classes. where are you taking them? i have a pwerbook mac, ready to use and get going!

i am 25, beginner guitar player....dying to play with people..i sing, but have never been in a band (just a choir girl)

im wondering how to get started....

are you playing with a band or do you make your own songs?

there are some stretches for the carpel tunnel you mentioned in one of your emails....i work in a lab and some of the stuff i do is very repetitive....(i sometimes get that ache when i am playing guitar...it hurts like a bitch....)

anywayz, i thought i would check this out...

I take classes at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, CA. It's a community college so it is very economical, $26 a unit. The music department faculty is spectacular. You can take some electronic music classes there or elsewhere to learn how to make music on your mac. (I soo should not be typing!)

There is a class this summer that will teach you how to use garage band, which you may already have on your mac. you can also learn how to use reason, cubase, pro tools, and a bunch of other programs.

I am not in a band but I have a partner..we write and produce our school projects together. I've never been in a band, either..I'm a classically-trained violinist who gave up music a while back and came back to it to try rock music. I write all my own material but have just recently started so I don't have much. Most of the stuff I wrote for class projects.

I'm not sure how to get started, personally I just started taking a few classes....I'm hoping we can get some Tribe members on here with more experience who can show us the ropes...

Also hook up with Women's Audio Mission (see separate post), they offer seminars that are for women only. (If you want to get in on the engineering/producing/recording side of things you will find very few women, W.A.M. provides a place where women can learn together.
